A seven-tone scale system used in Javanese and Balinese gamelan music with unequal intervals.

Pelog is one of the two tuning systems in gamelan music (the other being slendro). It contains seven tones per octave with intervals that do not correspond to any Western scale. The intervals are unequal and vary between different gamelan ensembles, as each set of instruments is tuned to its own unique version of pelog. Subsets of five notes from the seven-tone collection form different modes (pathet) used for specific dramatic or ceremonial contexts.
No two gamelan ensembles are tuned identically; each has its own unique pelog tuning, which means instruments from different ensembles cannot be mixed.
